Game Play:
Chess Wars is a modified version of the classic game of Chess. Chess Wars can be played with up to four players, using the four colours red, black, yellow, and green. The Chess Wars game board is four times the size of a regular chess board. The four center squares are coloured as are the four corner "portal" squares.

All pieces move in the exact same manner as in a regular game of chess, with the exception of the pawns. Pawns are capable of moving the same number of spaces as regular pawns, but also have the capability of moving to the left or right of their starting side. Pawns may also capture pieces on all diagonal squares.

The four corner squares are known as "Knight's Portals". These squares are accessible to all pieces, however, when a knight lands on any one of them it will be given access to jump to any free square on the board.

The four center squares may only be accessed by pawns and kings. A king may enter the center square of it's own colour, and will be safe there from attack by all pieces except for enemy pawns. If a pawn enters it's own coloured center square, it may swap itself for one of it's captured comrades. A pawn can only enter it's own coloured center square normally, but may capture a piece inside a diagonal center square if it's positioned to do so.

Pawns must leave enemy center squares on the next turn if possible. Recovered pieces in a center square must also leave the center square on the next turn if possible. The opposite player's end squares will not allow pawns to recover pieces in Chess Wars.

Because the game can be played by four players, the goal of Chess Wars is not to manoever your opponents into a "Check Mate". The goal is to actually capture each opponent's king. Once one player has captured another player's king, that player's pieces and turn will become property of the capturing player.

A small coloured circle will denote when one colour has been dominated by another. Both colours will still have their own separate turn, however, the pieces will all be considered property of a single player.

The game is won when all enemy kings are captured.

Once you've made your move the turn will end and the next colour will begin blinking.
